It is important that we properly identify whether it is a squirrel or a rat to take appropriate measures to keep them at bay.

If this occurs or at any time the infant develops diarrhea or bloating, cut back on the concentration of formula (dilute with water) until the situation clears up. Collared pikas have been known to store dead birds in their burrows for food during winter and eat the feces of other animals. The baby should produce urine within a few seconds but sometimes it takes a bit longer so be persistent. This means droppings of this size and shape that retain their dark color over time are likely from rats if they are becoming white, they are more likely from squirrels.
Taking a soft cotton ball or tissue, gently but rapidly stroke the genital area in a circular motion (the way you would expect a mother squirrel would do it). The mountain lion’s dropping can be up to 5 inches long and 1 and ¼ inch in diameter You will often see hair and bones in their scat. Squirrels leave behind pellets that are rounded at the ends, unlike the more pointed poop left by rats, and the color of their dung will lighten with time. You will need cotton balls, squares or soft tissue and moderately warm (not hot) water.
